SIDESWORD TOURNAMENT

Ideally suited for personal defence or warfare, the Sidesword is a single handed sword of just under three feet in length, and is traditionally used with either a small buckler, dagger or cloak in the left hand. Our tournament allows for all these variations.

The Sidesword competition is a light tournament, fought in minimum safety kit with fencing masks to protect the head. The choice of historical school and style is open to the combatants. Fighters may draw on both historical and modern resources describing the historical German, Italian or English styles of fighting. Their interpretation and skill will be pitted against others until there is one clear winner. That fighter will be awarded the prize for Sidesword champion 2010.
