Each year we try and do something a bit special for this event, and 2010 will be no exception.
This year, the game is Capture the Flag.

We are going to construct two watchtowers. We'll fill the towers with archers. That way they will be shooting downwards most of the time. More experienced archers could then be used as skirmishers on the field.
Those towers will be placed diagonally opposite each other in the arena. The field will be divided between them. At present, the plan is for a "river" and bridge, and I'd be keen to throw some tents up in there too. Other obstacles will be created using haybales and pallisades. There is a map, in draft form, which I am attaching below.
We're wanting a well balanced combat. So there will be archers on both sides, and combat archery from skirmishers in the middle. It will need marsahlled carefully, and it will be for you and Darryl to sort that. This is a fast moving rough and tumble game played in armour and using weapons to secure an advantage. The Melee involves all combatants present at the Tournament, which can be up to 200 fighters. Like our competitive tournament combats, the melee is carefully marshalled with safety and spectacle our prime concerns.

The Melee will be multi-period, and open to all combatants considered as "Battle Ready" by their respective trainers/group leaders.
